Martin Reto Buehler
Senior Insurance Officer
Martin has been in the insurance industry for 38 years. Starting out as a loss adjustor with Winterthur (now AXA), after earning his professional designation in Switzerland as a certified insurance specialist, he then moved on to become a broker with Jauch & Huebener (Johnson and Higgins, now Marsh). He joined Zurich Financial Services in 1987 where he stayed until joining International Finance Corporation in 2006.
While at Zurich, Martin was responsible for a variety of corporate underwriting and management functions, lastly as Executive Vice President for Zurich Corporate Solutions Europe where he was in charge of Alternative Risk Transfer solutions and Multiline/multiyear Programs. He worked both in the field as well as in Headquarters. One of his HQ functions was the integration of new companies into the Zurich Network of companies, specifically focusing on international program business. During his tenure at Zurich, he was in charge of corporate/commercial liability, held the position of the Technical Director for Swiss Commercial/Corporate Business, developed new products/services, served on various national and international committees (including the Swiss Nuclear Insurance Pool and the Swiss Hydropower Pool).
At IFC, he is one of the Senior Insurance Officers, responsible for the Asian, European, North African (French speaking) market, looking after and supporting IFC’s investment projects related to the insurance sector. Specialty areas include Micro-, Agro-, Health insurance, facilities, reinsurance and structured transactions.
